Bio

Emma Jakes is the 2020 Friendly Beekeeper’s of Iowa honey queen and writer for the Iowa Honey Producer’s newletter, The Buzz.  Emma started writing for the Iowa Honey Producers in the fall of 2016 and has had the pleasure of only missing 5 issues. She cooks foods from the IHPA Cookbook and then writes reviews, tips, and tricks to encourage other chefs (or chefs in training) to try their hands at new things.  Emma has been cooking for as long as she can remember and thinks fondly of the first time she got to cook all by her self (she only ran one spoon through the mixer!). 

 

Aside from cooking, Emma also enjoys other activities like ceramics, pursuing a degree in teaching, and spending time with friends and family.  Although Emma is still in college, she also has several of her own hives, has mentored some of her family, and enjoys making lotions and household items from beeswax.  She has given many talks across the state of Iowa about cooking with honey, playing with wax, and general beekeeping (her favorite is still cooking with honey).
